Reception

Underneath Frogun's wonderful visual presentation is a 3D platformer that is tougher than it should be, with inaccurate grappling and challenges that are more repetitive than enjoyable. Some initially unique and clever ideas aren't quite enough to carry Renata through to the end of an adventure that is rife with cheap and frustrating deaths.

All in all, Frogun is an absolute delight. For some, its slow pace might be a bit of an acquired taste — but for those who are up for what it’s offering, it’s a highly recommended addition to your platformer collection.

If it weren't for the bugs and glitches, I would love to give this a wholehearted recommendation, but at the moment players should wait for a patch to fix things up. Aside from that, Frogun is a great retro inspired 3D platformer that might be a little too simple for its own good but still a solid and very fun game.

I liked Frogun. Sure, its nostalgic aesthetic was a cheap shot for someone like me, but the game isn’t without its qualities. This is an adorable platformer that set out to look, feel and play like a classic 3D platformer from the Nintendo 64 era, and it succeeded with honors. I hope the game receives a patch or two to fix some of its janky physics...

There’s a good game here with Frogun, but it just needs to refine its very rough platforming, particularly with the “frog gun” before I could ever say Frogun is a great platformer that deserves to be compared to the classics of the past in a manner beyond that which is superficial.
