I started Everspace 2 deeply unsure about a space looter shooter. Tens of hours later I don't want to play anything else. Everspace 2 is a towering achievement of space-based thrills and spills. It absolutely deserves your attention.
Everspace 2 has a solid narrative, great arcade-style flight and combat mechanics, and an addictive explore, loot, and fight gameplay loop. That was true on the PC and it’s just as true on consoles. Everspace 2 is proof that an unexpected genre mashup like looter/shooter and space combat can play nicely together.
A full-on space opera looter shooter RPG, that is brimming with content and exciting combat set pieces, but which doesn't quite know when to stop before it starts to feel repetitive.
Everspace 2 on console is the best way to enjoy Rockfish's epic space sim RPG, with so much to do and tight and fluid controls that make combat thrilling every time.
It speaks to the level of ambition on display here - not to mention a tolerance for risk - that Everspace 2 essentially jettisons the roguelike mechanics of the first game in favour of a much more open and looter focused shooter and is all the better for it.
